Portland Rose Festival, Oregon, USA
The Portland Rose Festival is an annual waterfront festival happening over three consecutive summer weekends in Portland, Oregon—also known as the City of Roses. Ever since the Rose Festival's inception in 1907, its purpose has been to promote the city.
The festival's centerpiece is the Grand Floral Parade, which features a prismatic array of floral floats. Almost 500,000 people come to the Grand Floral Parade each year, and this year's parade is scheduled for June 9. The Rose Festival CityFair is another popular event, boasting carnival rides, scavenger hunts, and live entertainment. The CityFair opens at 5:00 p.m. on May 25, with the Opening Night Fireworks beginning after sunset. Visitors can enjoy the CityFair throughout the Rose Festival, however, attendees should also make time to see the illuminated floats of the Starlight Parade on June 2 and the Dragon Boat Races on June 9 - 10.
Tickets to the CityFair cost $5 - $8 per person. Attendees can purchase 40 ride tickets for $20 or a daily unlimited ride wristband for $37.50 - $50. Visitors can also reserve indoor and outdoor seating at the Grand Floral Parade for $15 - $30.
In 2018, the Rose Festival is taking place May 25 - 28, June 1 - 3 and June 8 - 10. Most festival events are concentrated around Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland, which is only 12 miles from Portland Airport (PDX).
